| Abstract: | An experimental analysis was performed to test the effect of food balls rolled by the dung beetl,e Canthon cyanellus cyanellus LeConte on conspecific individuals of the same and different sex. The results show that only the mature males impregnate the foodballs with abdominal secretions during rolling. The ct~emical labelling of the ball is a means to attract a female over short distance and after retain it in the nest. |
